The companies represented in the portfolios of our EIS and SEIS funds are all innovative businesses with strong growth potential

Given the opportunity to help startups reach their potential there is the added benefit of accruing significant tax benefits for investors. Many of these innovative businesses have the potential to join the ranks of the elite SMEs featured in the report.

Some of the highlights of the report are as follows:

  • The most dynamic SMEs discussed in the report have grown at a three-year compounded average of 24% and created jobs at a rate of 37% over a two-year period.
  • The top 100 companies in the report grew by an average of 102% over the past three years.
  • The 1,000 companies listed in the report showed an outstanding level of innovation. Combined, they received almost 10,000 registered trademarks and patents, which was an increase of more than 20% from 2017.
  • The composition of the companies listed in the report was diverse, with 20% in the engineering and manufacturing sector, 13% in the food and drink sector and almost 10% in the technology sector.

This is an excellent recognition to their hard-working and innovative approach.”

Commenting on the report, Jyrki Katainen, European Commission Vice-President for Jobs, Growth, Investment and Competitiveness, said: “SMEs are the backbone of the European economy, which is solid and growing. Thanks to structural reforms in Member States but also to dynamic and innovative, high-growth SMEs, employment has reached new record levels, with almost 240 million people in jobs. We need to continue on that path and create a favourable business environment enabling cutting-edge innovators and solid manufacturing SMEs to grow and reach their full potential.”
