Startup Funding Club’s SEIS portfolio company Transcend Packaging wins at the 2019 Spectator Economic Disruptor Awards
Startup Funding Club has been involved in selecting great start-ups on behalf of their investors and arranging SEIS and EIS investments, for which it has won multiple awards over the last 6 years. Its portfolio company Transcend Packaging won both the 2019 Spectator Economic Disruptor Award for North West and Wales and the Runner-Up for Economic Disruptor of the Year!
The award recognizes the ”game-changers” that redefine their own marketplace and set new norms that others follow. ‘Disruptors’ are defined as ventures that are radically changing their marketplace in terms of price, choice, accessibility or distinctive technology. Not only this but also it’s those companies with the most financial viability and potential for international scalability. Transcend Packaging ticks all these boxes.
Inspired by the David Attenborough film Blue Planet II, which caused a global outrage against single-use plastics, Transcend Packaging has taken up the mission to create a future for brands looking for long-term sustainable solutions. As a fast-growing manufacturing company disrupting the packaging industry, Transcend Packaging emerged as Europe’s biggest producer of paper drinking straws for mega-companies such as McDonald’s and Tetrapak.
If any social media complaints ever came in about straws disintegrating after sitting in a McDonald’s drink for a long time, Transcend Packaging’s director Gabriel Fysh would most likely explain to them that that’s exactly the point!
Looking onward, the ambitious young company from Caerphilly, Wales; is looking to create non-plastic packaging solutions for more markets and food industries.
