The highly anticipated BBC 2 series Million Pound Menu goes on air on Thursday 17th May

Some are calling it a cross between MasterChef and Dragons Den. We call it the “Real Restaurant Revolution”.

Over the next 6 weeks, we will see how 12 restaurateurs and their dining concepts appeal to the investment market for funding. Each concept will be given a three-day trial in a 40 seater pop-up restaurant, following which a team of expert investors will draw on their experience to decide if they want to invest. It is vital the restaurateurs stand out with both their vision and practical performance.

To present the series, the BBC have chosen household favourite Fred Sirieix. Fred has been working in the restaurant industry for the past 25 years and is currently the general manager at Galvin at Windows, at the London Hilton Park Lane.

The judges are a line-up of very experienced expert investors

Among the 10 expert investors with a chance of finding the next big thing is Darrel Connell of the Imbiba Partnership. With so much debate in recent months about the “casual dining crunch”, it is heartening that the BBC have chosen to showcase dynamic new restaurateurs that with their surge of fresh new dining concepts from all over the UK. Despite chains such as Strada, Byron and Jamie’s Italian closing their doors, as we highlighted last month, it is not all doom and gloom for the evolving casual dining concepts on the scene. The surviving restaurant concepts are often directed at the millennial market offering more focus on food quality and provenance. Million Pound Menu will help to identify what makes a restaurant attractive to investors.
